Jet Blue, which just last week offered a nod to New Englanders by decking an Airbus A320 in Red Sox colors, said Monday it is going to launch service between Boston and Nantucket this summer.

Flights between Logan International Airport and Nantucket Memorial Airport will run May 17 and Sept. 4 this year.

“We’re making New Englanders’ summer travel to Nantucket even easier with this daily trip to the island,” John Checketts, director of route planning for Jet Blue, said in a prepared statement.

The flights, using 100-seat Embraer E190s, will take a little less than an hour.

In launching the new service, JetBlue is challenging Cape Air, which has long been a major player in flying passengers to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

Developer Millennium Partners will take control of the long-idle Filene’s property in Downtown Crossing and build a tower on the site with retail stores, office space and hundreds of residences, city officials said tonight.

The firm will become an investor in the project and team up in the redevelopment with its existing owner, Vornado Realty Trust of New York. Vornado has drawn the ire of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino after it stopped construction on the site more than three years ago, leaving a giant crater in the heart of the city’s central shopping district.

The breakthrough deal, whose terms were not disclosed, would end one of the biggest real estate debacles in city history, and trigger a substantial makeover of that section of downtown Boston.

In Boston Millennium has developed the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Towers nearby, and is currently building Hayward Place residences across from the Ritz. Executives with Millennium Partners could not be immediately reached for comment tonight. Vornado officials also could not be reached for comment.

City officials emphasized that Millennium will lead the project, with Vornado taking take a more passive role. They expect Millennium to file a revised development plan for the former Filene’s site within 60 days, and that they hope to see construction resume on the property within a year.

The work stoppage on the Filene’s site has left a major hole in Downtown Crossing, a commercial district that Menino has been trying to spruce up. Vornado stopped worked in the summer of 2008, when its development team could not get a loan to finish the construction.

That triggered an angry standoff between Menino and Vornado’s chairman, Steven Roth, who at one point in a public talk suggested that developers allow urban properties to become blighted to extract more funding from local governments. An angry Menino responded by triggering the process to revoke Vornado’s permits for the project.

Last night, however, officials in his administration celebrated the new deal, which they said will finally break the logjam over the redevelopment and dramatically speed efforts to revitalize the Downtown Crossing.

“The downtown is going to be transformed as this and other buildings open in the area,” said one city official, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the project publicly.

The new building by Millennium will be designed by Architect Gary Handel, who also drafted plans for the Hayward Place project currently under construction in Downtown Crossing.

Effective as of the date of the recording of this amendment with the Registry of Deeds, there shall be no smoking anywhere on the Premises of the Millennium Place North Low-Rise Unit, including without limitation the Units thereof, the Common Elements and Limited Common Elements thereof, and any General Common Elements and Limited Common Elements of the Primary Condominium located at 1-3 Avery Street.

 Smoking shall be defined as the inhaling, exhaling, breathing, carrying, or possession of any lighted cigarette, cigar, pipe, other product containing any amount of tobacco, or other similar heated or lit product.

So, sticking a lit cigar in your pocket won’t get you off the hook but might just set your pants on fire….

The first order of business was to announce the resignation of the Board President, Kathleen Carrigan and the subsequent election by the remaining board members of Mark Winkeller as the interim President. Annual elections for the entire 5 seats on the Board will take place in mid-May.

Things you need to know:

1.The first phase of the Decor project which involved the repair of minor ceiling and wall cracks has been done. The next phase of changing wall coverings and hall way carpeting will be on hold until about May, after the winter months. The project is now expected to wrap up by September.

2. In mid February, all valet key tags will be changed for your vehicle.  Out will be the small plastic tag with the bar code and in its place will be a larger proximity card attached to your key ring.

This will make the check in/out system in the garage smoother and hopefully decrease the time for delivery of your car to the curb. Notices and instructions will be sent out soon. Your valet number that you presently have , IE.  123, will stay the same.

3.While we all love our cleaning gals, come March they won’t be coming thru the lobby with their cleaning equipment and supplies.

As with all other service folks, they will now be using the loading dock, service elevator and self-parking in the garage at a super reduced rate. No more drop off at the front door, double parking or using the valet service. Instructional notices will be coming soon. This is a joint effort with the North Tower to help alleviate the traffic on the street.

4. Watch out on the street, if you make an illegal turn from Washington onto Avery, the BPD will be watching.
