A piece of baseball history is for sale in Sudbury, Mass.

Babe Ruth’s five-bedroom, 3.5 bath home on Dutton Road where the pitching and hitting legend lived from 1922 to 1926 has been listed for $1.65 million. The property offers 5,124 square feet of space with manicured grounds, updated systems, a chef’s kitchen, richly detailed family room, and a sunny master suite with vaulted ceilings, according to the listing agency.

In addition, the property has a 5,000-square-foot barn with horse stables, sub-divided office space, working garage bays and storage for the hobbyist. A top-floor apartment in the barn includes a full kitchen, full bathroom and bedroom all located adjacent to the house. This barn is zoned for residential and commercial use.

Legend has it that the residence was the site of many wild parties hosted by Ruth, including one where Babe pushed a piano into nearby Willis Pond.

Ruth became a permanent fixture in the Boston Red Sox rotation in 1915, accumulating an 18-8 record with an ERA of 2.44, according to BabeRuth.com. He followed up his successful first season with a 23-12 campaign in 1916, leading the league with a 1.75 ERA. In 1917, he went 24-13 with a 2.01 ERA and a staggering 35 complete games in 38 starts. On Dec. 26, 1919, Babe was sold to the New York Yankees and the Curse of the Bambino was born.

The star pitcher discovered Sudbury not long after he joined the Red Sox as a hitting pitcher, according to “Babe Ruth: Gentleman Farmer.” Several veteran Red Sox players, including his catcher, Chet Thomas, rented or owned camps in the Pine Lakes area where they could fish, hunt and party without being disturbed. By 1919, Ruth was using a camp on Willis Lake owned by sports enthusiast Larry Joyce. He continued to come to Sudbury even after he was traded to Jacob Ruppert’s New York Yankees that winter.

In 1922, Ruth purchased the Sylvester Perry Farm, as it was called then, along with a camp located on Willis Lake. He moved his wife, Helen, and adopted daughter, Dorothy, there soon after. He dubbed the farm “Home Plate.”

Get ready or a return of Occupy Boston on May 1st.

According to the Boston Business Journal it should be an interesting day:

After a mostly quiet few months for Occupy Boston, the movement’s local contingent has a day of protests planned for May 1, as part of a call for global demonstrations by the group.

According to OccupyBoston.org, the group will mark May 1 — a day that celebrates workers internationally — with a call for people to strike, skip work, walk out of school and abstain from shopping and banking in support of the ’99 percent.’ ”

In Boston, protests are scheduled to start at 7 a.m. for a “Financial District Block Party” at the intersection of Federal Street and Franklin Street, per the group’s website.

The day’s activities also will include a May Day rally at Boston City Hall Plaza at noon and a “Death of Capitalism Street Theater Funeral Procession” at 8 p.m. on May 1, during which time participants are invited to either, “participate as a mourner (dress in black), a celebrator (wear neon/bright colors/glow stuff) or be part of the skeleton bloc.”

A representative from Occupy Boston could not immediately be reached for comment.

City officials declined comment.

The developer of a proposed 10-story office building in Boston’s Theatre District is facing a foreclosure auction on the property where the offices would be built.

Hera Development Corp. in Brighton, Mass., could lose the vacant three-story property it bought at 212 Stuart St. in 2007 for $6.5 million. A planned 2009 groundbreaking for the $30 million office building at the shuttered Jae’s restaurant and an adjacent parking lot never took place.

An auction has been scheduled by Paul E. Saperstein Co. on the property for Monday, April 23 at 2 p.m. The 3,317-square-foot parcel contains a 10,000-square-foot brick building that has been gutted and requires a total rehab.

Under the plan approved by the BRA , the existing building near the W Hotel & Residences was to be incorporated into the design of a new mid-rise office building to be built on a parking lot located at 222 Stuart St. In 2006, the BRA approved an eight-story building with 18 condominiums and 33,500 square feet of ground-floor retail for the site. But the deal fizzled as the residential housing market collapsed and Hera switched the use to offices.
